How long will a power station run a space heater?
Not for long. A space heater on high draws about 1,500 W, one of the heaviest loads you can plug in. Many smaller stations can’t supply 1,500 W at all, and the ones that can empty quickly.
On high (1,500 W)
| Station | Running non-stop | At 2 h a day |
|---|---|---|
| 500 Wh | 17 min | 3 h 24 min |
| 1,000 Wh | 34 min | 6 h 48 min |
| 1,500 Wh | 51 min | 10 h 12 min |
| 2,000 Wh | 1 h 8 min | 13 h 36 min |
| 3,000 Wh | 1 h 42 min | 20 h 24 min |
On low (750 W)
| Station | Running non-stop | At 2 h a day |
|---|---|---|
| 500 Wh | 34 min | 6 h 48 min |
| 1,000 Wh | 1 h 8 min | 13 h 36 min |
| 1,500 Wh | 1 h 42 min | 20 h 24 min |
| 2,000 Wh | 2 h 16 min | 1.1 days |
| 3,000 Wh | 3 h 24 min | 1.7 days |
Warmer options that last
Heating a person uses far less energy than heating a room. An electric blanket at about 100 W runs for 8 h 30 min on a 1000 Wh station, enough for a whole night. Heated pads, heated clothing and a good sleeping bag stretch it further.
